Features

Live translation & subtitles for stages, conferences and services

One app on your computer. No interpreter booths, no delay, no staffing.

True real time

Captions appear word by word while the speaker is talking – not afterwards. The source language is detected automatically.

44 languages

Nordic, European, African, Asian and Middle Eastern languages – from Swedish and Icelandic to Swahili and Mandarin.

ProPresenter

Captions show right on the projector and stage display — as a web overlay in a Prop or via Messages. You control style and placement, and the operator stays in control.

OBS & livestream

A ready-made transparent caption overlay for OBS Browser Source – subtitles in your stream with zero extra editing.

AI voice

The translation can also be spoken with a natural AI voice – to headphones, a PA zone, or into the stream.

Tone control

Per-event instructions to the AI (e.g. liturgical or business register) and a built-in per-language profanity filter.

Captions, wherever you need them

The same translation, three ways to show it – pick one or run all three at once.

Projector – full screen

The app's own caption window shows the translation full-screen on your projector. Works out of the box, no extra software.

ProPresenter – lower third

Captions overlay your existing slides and lyrics as a lower third – styled your way, via the network API.

OBS – in the livestream

A transparent overlay is added to your stream as a Browser Source – viewers at home see captions right in the picture.

The app

Simple to control, clear on screen

One window with everything: start, language, audio level and voice — and captions fullscreen on the projector.

Tolka Live main window with controls and a live translation
The main window — live translation, with language, audio meter and voice in a single row.
Tolka Live fullscreen caption mode with large text
Fullscreen mode — large, clear text on a projector or TV, with no extra software.

New — beta

Run it in the browser & read on phones

Tolka Live is now also a web app — sign in, pick a language and press Start, no install needed. And your audience? They scan a QR code and follow the translation as live text on their own phones. The desktop apps for Mac and Windows remain, just like before.

AI voice

Not just text — a voice that speaks

Tolka Live can read the translation aloud in a natural AI voice and send the audio wherever you need: to headphones for an interpreter, to a separate PA zone, or into the livestream.

Perfect when the audience would rather listen than read — e.g. via headphones on an assistive-listening channel, or as an extra audio track in the stream. Text and voice can be used separately or together.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

More questions and every detail live in the full FAQ — or email us, we're happy to help.

Which languages are supported?

44 target languages, including Swedish, English, Icelandic, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, Amharic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The source language is detected automatically.

Is internet required?

Yes, a stable internet connection is required since translation runs on top-tier cloud AI. A normal broadband connection is more than enough.

What equipment do we need?

A Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel) or a Windows PC, plus a microphone feed from your existing sound system. If you use ProPresenter or OBS, the guide shows how to connect them – otherwise the app's own caption window works great on a projector.

How do I install it?

Create an account, download the app for Mac or Windows and follow the step-by-step guide. Most people are running in under fifteen minutes. Stuck? Email us and we'll help.

Can the AI make mistakes?

Yes, occasionally. AI translation is very good but not perfect – individual words or names can come out wrong, especially with unclear speech or unusual expressions. Treat the captions as a support for the audience, not as certified interpretation. A built-in profanity filter keeps inappropriate words out of the captions, and you can give the AI your own instructions on tone and terminology.

What happens if we run out of hours?

The app warns you at 80% of your monthly hours. You can always upgrade or add hours – no surprise invoices.

Can the audience follow along on their phones?

Yes! The organizer shares a reader link or shows a QR code (available in the web app) — the audience scans it and follows the translation as live text on their own phones, nothing to install. Spoken translation on phones (listening with headphones) is under development.
